In the 6th International Financial Markets Conference “Expanding Market-Based Finance for Economic Growth” financial and business experts will discuss the developments in financial markets, impact of financial technologies on capital markets, green finance perspectives and other issues. The Conference will take place on 3 May in Vilnius.

“In the past decade green bonds became an innovative financial instrument – investments are promoted to sustainable projects, iniciatives and technologies by offerring the opportunity for financial institutions, companies and people to contribute directly to environmental protection", says green financing specialist Sir Roger Gifford, UK head of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB) and Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Green Finance Initiative.

“Despite the fact that green technology financing is rapidly growing, it is appropriate that the essential part of the financial services sector paid attention to this important, but often little understood type of investment. The same as the investments to developing markets became fashionable over the past two decades, green investments are destined to become a key element of global capital markets in the near future”, says one of green finance experts Ms. Anjalika Bardalai, TheCityUK’s chief economist.

Director of the Financial Market Policy Department of the Ministry of Finance Sigitas Mitkus says that the Conference will discuss new developments in green financing considering Paris Agreement, UN 2030 Agenda and recently adopted the European Commission's action plan for financing sustainable development. “Based on specific examples, we will discuss the methods and measures how the financial sector could contribute to sustainable development, as well as we will discuss whether green financing may promote investment activity of people and instittutions, what instruments may be used for sustainable growth”,  says discussion moderator Mr. S. Mitkus.

The International Financial Markets Conference annually gathers reputed financial experts, private investors, business and science representatives from all over the world. Both political and business, financial markets leaders – Minister of Finance Vilius Šapoka, Minister of Transport and Communications Rokas Masiulis, Nasdaq Nordics President Lauri Rosendahl, Thomson Reuters Global Head Nick Collier, ESM General Director Kalin Anev Janse, other speakers will share their insights.

The Conference will also overview infrastructure needs and projects planned by the Government of the Republic of Lithania, especially – in the transport sector. The Conference will discuss what private investment funds may offer in this matter and will present the public-private partnership expertise in Lithuania.
