Financial services refer to banking, credit, insurance, investment, payment and similar services defined in the relevant legal acts of the Republic of Lithuania governing the services in question.

In the area of financial services the Ministry of Finance seeks to ensure that the Lithuanian legal acts are harmonised with the legal acts of the European Union, and that the quality of financial services, consumer protection and the supervision of other such entities provided in Lithuania, are well in line with the global trends and the further development of European financial markets.

For this purpose the Ministry of Finance maintains close relations with the authorities supervising Lithuanian financial markets and participates in the activities of such institutions, thus ensuring that the Lithuanian financial services providers are not only able to compete with their foreign counterparts operating in Lithuania, but can also provide such services in other States of the European Union and the world, taking advantage of the possibilities provided by the regulations of the European Union  and the laws of Lithuania.
