The Finance Minister, Mr. Rimantas Šadžius met with the new World Bank Country Manager for Poland and the Baltic States, Mr. Oscar de Bruyn Kops.

Vilnius, August 21. Today the Finance Minister, Mr. Rimantas Šadžius met with the new World Bank Country Manager for Poland and the Baltic States, Mr. Oscar de Bruyn Kops.

At the meeting the Finance Minister expressed his thanks to the representative of the World Bank for overall support provided by this organisation to Lithuania. Further cooperation between the World Bank and Lithuania was also discussed.

Since 2002 Lithuania does not borrow from the World Bank and in September 2006 informed the organisation about its decision on graduation from the recipient country status to a donor country, and to contribute to the implementation of the development cooperation policy goals. At present, Lithuania has also declared its intentions to become a member of the International Development Association (IDA), which is the part of the World Bank.

Mr. Oscar de Bruyn Kops was appointed as the new World Bank Country Manager for Poland and the Baltic States on July 1, 2007. Till then he served as the Country Manager for Bulgaria for the period of 5 years. Mr. Oscar de Bruyn Kops,a Dutch national joined the World Bank in 1979.
