G. Skaistė: “Moldova’s accession to the European Union is a strategic interest of Lithuania”

Minister of Finance Gintarė Skaistė, at the meeting in Yerevan with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalisation of Moldova Dumitru Alaiba, noted that Lithuania actively supports the country’s ambition to become a member of the European Union and is ready to share experience and expertise to help the country achieve this goal.

“Moldova’s accession to the European Union is in line with Lithuania’s strategic interests, strengthening democracy and geopolitical security of the region. We actively support Moldova’s ambition to implement the reforms necessary for membership, therefore, we are ready not only to share Lithuania’s experience gained and expertise, but also to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas such as capital market development and financial technology”, said Minister G. Skaistė.

During the meeting, the ministers also discussed the need to strengthen Moldova’s human capital, to improve the investment environment in the country and the ways to attract foreign investors.

The bilateral ministerial meeting took place in the context of the annual meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) taking place in the capital of Armenia. Minister G. Skaistė will chair the opening session of this year’s meeting.
