Government approves withdrawal of action from the General Court of the EU
On Wednesday, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the withdrawal of an action brought by the previous Government in July 2024 before the General Court of the European Union challenging the decision of the European Commission (EC) on the unallocated part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRF) support.
“Given the content of the legal dispute and the unviable practice of similar cases, it makes much more sense today to focus attention and resources on the implementation of the commitments that are important for Lithuania and that the European Commission expects. This is what this Government is willing to do, without shirking its responsibilities, by maintaining a constructive and cooperative discussion with the EC,” the Prime Minister stated.
The subsequent procedure was assessed by the Government as inexpedient also in view of the measures provided for in the programme of the 19th Government in the field of tax policy, as well as the fact that a decision of the General Court of the EU that would not be favourable to Lithuania would result in the final annulment of the suspended part of the assistance amounting to EUR 8.7 million.
