Minister of Finance Vilius Šapoka together with the delegation in Hague met Minister of Finance of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Wopke Hoekstra as well as the Members of the Financial Committee of the Parliament of the Netherlands.

The issues discussed at the meetings were current affairs of the EU financial agenda and bilateral cooperation development perspectives.

“The main focus at the meetings was made on the negotiations on the next Multiannual Financial Framework. I presented Lithuania’s position and main priorities. Moreover, I stressed that the proposal of the European Commission for a significant reduction of the Cohesion Policy funding for Lithuania was similar to a punishment for a successful implementation of this policy. Whereas the provided pace of convergence of direct payments is abundantly slow and not offering comparable competitive conditions for farmers of different countries on a single market. We shared our views with the colleagues of the Netherlands that in the future we have to give more focus on the effectiveness of the use of the EU budget and link with the implementation of necessary structural reforms”, said Minister of Finance V. Šapoka.

Also, further progress in deepening the Economic and Monetary Union, necessary steps to combat money laundering at EU level and opportunities for developing bilateral cooperation in Fintech, attracting institutional investors and other areas were discussed at the meetings.
