Vilnius, May 29. Today, the contact fair “Region Leaders”, dedicated to the EU structural assistance issues, was held in the Lithuanian Exhibition and Convention Centre “Litexpo” in Vilnius. The event was organised by the Ministry of Finance.

The growing community

The contact fair “Region Leaders” is the main annual structural assistance event held for the second year already and is becoming a tradition. This fair aims at presenting results on use and continuity of EU assistance, the benefits of the projects implemented, thus establishing more close contacts between EU assistance community members.

The contact fair “Region Leaders” was organised during the period of significant changes – at the end of the EU structural assistance for Lithuania period 2004-2006 and taking on new task – the implementation of the Lithuanian Strategy on the Use of EU Structural Assistance for the Years 2007-2013.

The event was attended by a large EU assistance community – by the beneficiaries, assistance administrators and those interested in assistance outcome. They exchanged experience, established contacts, reviewed the results and took interest in new assistance possibilities in the period 2007–2013.

During the fair one could attend the EU structural assistance “café”, where the employees of the institutions administering EU structural assistance (ministries and implementing agencies) presented answers to relevant questions.

It is evident that EU assistance community is growing and a more close collaboration among its members creates the value added for each individual and the entire system

The awards

The pinnacle of the event was the announcement and awarding of the projects “Region Leaders”. “Speaking about assistance, we usually mention figures, but we should not forget the most important part - the people behind the figures, enthusiasts who believe that their activities are significant and with their work they contribute to the establishment of better Lithuania”, - stated Finance Minister Rimantas Šadžius.

Ten smoothly implemented EU structural assistance projects (a project per each county) were awarded out 78 projects, which participated in the election of “Region Leaders”. These projects were proposed by institutions responsible for administration of EU assistance and county head administrations out of more than 3500 projects financed under the SPD of Lithuania for 2004–2006 and the Cohesion Fund Strategy.
