Additional funds for military mobility: EUR 10 million for Kėdainiai bridge over the river Nemunas in Kaunas
Today, the Government approved the draft resolution submitted by the Ministry of Finance, which proposes to allocate additional funds for military mobility transport infrastructure this year. EUR 10 million will be allocated to the Ministry of National Defense (MoND) from the borrowed funds, these funds will be channeled to finance the construction of the Kėdainiai Bridge over the river Nemunas in Kaunas.
"Funding for the military mobility project is allocated taking into account the importance of this bridge for the interests of national security and the daily needs of the citizens of Kaunas. This will make it possible to ensure the fulfillment of the host country's obligations and ensure the provision of vital services and the distribution of traffic flows", Minister of Finance Gintarė Skaistė states.
With this Government resolution, the Ministry of Finance responds to the request of the MoND and the decision of the meeting of the Military Mobility Transport and Military Infrastructure Project Supervision Commission.
According to the Law on the Approval of the Financial Indicators of the State Budget and Municipal Budgets for 2024, the Ministry of Finance is granted the right to borrow to finance national defense needs and to establish and/or develop military mobility and dual-use (military and civilian) transport, military and civil infrastructure to ensure the necessary support of the host country.
