At the meeting with the UK Chief Secretary to the Treasury: European security must be strengthened and in support to Ukraine – sanctions against Russia must be tightened
On 24 March in London, Minister of Finance Rimantas Šadžius had a meeting with United Kingdom (UK) Chief Secretary to the Treasury Darren Jones, where discussed current events of the geopolitical situation, European security and the need to increase defence spending, support to Ukraine and maintenance of sanctions against Russia as well as its tightening issues.
“In the context of recent events and increasing geopolitical tensions, Ukraine needs our support as never before – we advocate more active steps in supplying military, financial and political support to the country struggling with the Russian aggression. At the same time, we must continue to tighten sanctions against Russia”, R. Šadžius stressed.
At the meeting Minister of Finance R. Šadžius highlighted the issues of European security and the need to increase defence spending. The Minister rejoiced at a coherent and increasing cooperation between Lithuania and the UK both in the field of development of the economy and defence industry and presented Lithuania’s and European Union’s steps towards strengthening defence capabilities, including a new European Union’s REARM Europe initiative.
