Competition for the position of Director-General of the Customs Department announced
The Ministry of Finance has announced a competition for the position of Director-General of the Customs Department.
According to Minister of Finance K. Vaitiekūnas, the new head will have to not only modernise the institution's activities but also strengthen its ability to respond to the changed geopolitical reality, when trade flows, sanctions against aggressors and increased risks at the border require particularly high competence.
“Customs is not only an administrative authority, it acts as the border guard service of the Lithuanian economy. Therefore, the new leader has very high expectations – to be able to mobilise a team, to implement modern risk management decisions and to ensure that Customs is more modern, transparent and able to respond effectively and flexibly to growing challenges”, Minister of Finance K. Vaitiekūnas emphasizes.
It is stated that the Director-General of this office manages the Customs Department and the Customs as a whole, and plans, organises and controls the activities of the Customs Department. The Director-General ensures the performance of the functions and tasks assigned to the customs authorities and manages financial, human and other resources. The Director-General takes decisions, concludes contracts, agreements and transactions on behalf of the Customs Department.
The Customs Department is a body the purpose of which is to direct the activities of the Lithuanian Customs, which include the supervision of international trade. The Lithuanian Customs system consists of the Customs Department, the Customs Criminal Service, the Customs Training Centre, the Customs Laboratory, the Customs Information Systems Centre and three territorial Customs offices – Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda.
The founder and owner of the institution is the state. The rights and obligations of the owner of the institution are implemented by the Ministry of Finance. The Director-General of the Customs Department is appointed by the Minister of Finance for a term of 5 years.
