EUR 1.6 billion for regions: the 200th call for applications for EU investments has been announced

Today, the 200^th call for applications for projects planned by regions has been announced. It invited Trakai District Municipal Administration to submit the project implementation plan in the field of social development.  In total, calls for projects planned by regions have been announced for EUR 429.5 million.  More than EUR 1.6 billion has been allocated to Lithuanian regions in the new European Union (EU) investment financing period, which will be invested in regional development.

It is planned during the 200^th call project to purchase three buses, which will be easily adapted to transport schoolchildren with disabilities and other schoolchildren to and from the educational institution. This will promote social inclusion and the principle of equal opportunities.

The largest number of calls was announced in the field of improving the accessibility of economic and public services of regions, functional areas, municipalities and cities administered by the Ministry of the Interior, amounting to EUR 106.5 million.

In the field of social security, the calls reached EUR 103.4 million. They will implement the projects aimed at reducing territorial disparities for well-being of vulnerable groups.

In the field of education, the scope of calls amounts to EUR 77.8 million. Regions are invited to submit projects to improve access to education for children in social exclusion and to develop diversified education through full-time school activities.

In the field of environment, calls for proposals were announced for EUR 65.4 million. These calls will implement the projects for drinking water supply and wastewater management, development of green infrastructure, management of contaminated and damaged areas, promotion of separate collection of waste and ambient air monitoring of municipalities.

Currently, the regions are actively planning the projects. Alytus region is the first region which has already planned all funds allocated to this region.

Compared to the previous EU investment perspective, the regions will receive significantly higher direct investment alone. In the period 2014–2020, the regions were allocated about EUR 972 million of EU resources. The new perspective allocates more than EUR 1.6 billion of the EU Structural Funds’ resources for the implementation of the programme.
