Finance Minister T. Valys met with members of the European Commission and the European Parliament in Brussels.

Lithuania will take over the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2027 – and the preparations are already well underway.

A full first day in Brussels took Finance Minister Taurimas Valys from the European Commission to the European Parliament and the ECOFIN Council Secretariat.

The Minister met with European Commissioner Piotr Serafin, ECON Committee Chair Aurore Lalucq, MEPs Jonás Fernández and Virginijus Sinkevičius, and Thomas Westphal, Head of the ECOFIN Council Secretariat. He also met with the Ministry of Finance and Customs attachés based in Brussels.

The discussions focused on preparations for Lithuania’s Presidency, the economic and financial agenda ahead, and Lithuania’s priorities at the European level.

Holding the Presidency is about much more than the six months in 2027. It requires thorough preparation, close coordination and strong partnerships well in advance.
