Lithuania borrows EUR 1,750 million on international capital markets

Today, Lithuania borrowed EUR 1,750 million on international capital markets by issuing two Eurobond issues – with a nominal value of EUR 1 billion and a 10.5- year maturity, and a nominal value of EUR 750 million and a 20- year maturity.

“Implementing this year's borrowing programme, Lithuania issued two Eurobond issues simultaneously for the second time this year. Both issues are targeted at foreign investors acquiring long-term securities. As a rule, investors expect high creditworthiness and stability when choosing long-term bonds, especially those with a 20-year maturity, therefore, a successful issuance shows a positive assessment of our country's economy and fiscal policy”, Vice-Minister of Finance Darius Sadeckas said.

The Vice-Minister notes that longer-term borrowing contributes to the stability of the general government debt structure – instead of continuously refinancing short-term debts, long-term bonds allow avoiding frequent refinancing risks.

Demand for both Eurobond issues was twice as high as supply, with the final amount of order books reaching EUR 3.4 billion.

The 10.5-year Eurobond issue has been distributed at a yield of 3.662 %, the issue price is 99.698 % of their nominal value. Annual interest of 3.625 % will be paid on this issue. The Eurobonds will be serviced on 10 September 2025 and redeemed on 10 March 2036.

The 20-year Eurobond issue was distributed at a yield of 4.363 %, the issue price amounting to 98.512 % of their nominal value. Annual interest rate of 4,250 % will be paid on this issue. The Eurobonds will be serviced on 10 September 2025 and redeemed on 10 September 2045. The Eurobond issue with a longer maturity than 15 years has been issued for the first time since 2021.

Erste, Société Générale and HSBC were selected as lead managers and Luminor was given the role of co-lead manager.

In January this year, Lithuania borrowed EUR 2 billion on international capital markets by issuing two Eurobond issues with a nominal value of EUR 1 billion and a 5 -year maturity, and a nominal value of EUR 1 billion and a 15- year maturity.
