Lithuania's and Latvia's Finance Ministers to coordinate positions on regional challenges in Riga
Minister of Finance Kristupas Vaitiekūnas is leaving for Latvia, where he will meet with Minister of Finance of Latvia Arvils Ašeradens and participate in the Baltic Capital Markets Conference.
During the meeting with the Minister of Finance of Latvia, the main focus will be on the trends of economic development of the countries and the challenges of budget planning for next year.
"We will focus our meetings with the Latvian Finance Minister on the challenges of our countries' region, from defence funding to strengthening the EU's eastern border. Lithuania and Latvia face very similar threats and needs, so coordinated decisions are necessary. I am convinced that working together we can find sustainable financial instruments faster, strengthen border protection and ensure uninterrupted support for Ukraine", K. Vaitiekūnas stated.
At the bilateral meeting, ministers will also discuss possible solutions for finding new defence funding opportunities, discuss positions on further strengthening the EU's eastern border and continuity of support to Ukraine.
During his visit to Latvia, the Minister of Finance, together with other Ministers of Finance of the Baltic States, will participate in the panel discussion of the Baltic Capital Markets Conference on the role of capital markets in promoting public and private investment. The aim of this conference is to bring together investors and representatives of financial regulators for a constructive dialogue on implementing the future strategy for the Baltic capital markets.
