Ministry of Finance: proposed changes will provide greater protection for vehicle owners
The Government approved the draft resolution prepared by the Ministry of Finance to ensure greater financial protection for owners of motor vehicles who are victims of the road traffic accident.
The Rules on Administration of Road Traffic Accident Damage and Payment of Insurance Claims have been revised by supplementing them with a new provision providing for the possibility not to calculate the depreciation of damaged parts.
“We took note of sometimes occurring unfair situation so far when the owner of motor vehicle, who is the victim, while repairing his motor vehicle incurs additional costs due to calculation of the price of spare parts considering depreciation. Modification of the Rules will ensure that in case of failure to repair damaged parts and to use worn or unoriginal parts, there will be a possibility of using new parts for the repairs and the victim will not have to pay additionally for them”, says Vice-Minister of Vaida Česnulevičiūtė-Markevičienė.
This is foreseen in case if the victim repairs the damaged motor vehicle at a repair service provider recommended by the insurer or insurer’s office, or at a selected repair service provider approved in writing by the insurer or the office.
