The Ministry of Finance earmarks an additional EUR 60 million for the acquisition of zero-emission vehicles
Today, the Government approved the proposal of the Ministry of Finance to allow the funds allocated to projects of the measures administered by the Ministry of Transport and Communications under the 2021-2027 EU Funds Investment Programme to be exceeded by EUR 60 million in order to finance the acquisition of zero-emission public transport vehicles.
“At present, about 86% of public transport buses in the country are diesel-powered. Additional funding for public transport operators with signed project contracts will allow them to assume more obligations than was possible to date. This will accelerate the renewal of the public transport and the transition to zero-emission vehicles”, Minister of Finance Kristupas Vaitiekūnas says.
The support is foreseen for public transport operators with contracts with municipalities in order to use vehicles powered by clean energy in the bus fleets under their control.
