At the IMF and WB annual meetings G. Skaistė will discuss global economic situation and further support for Ukraine
On October 11-15, Minister of Finance Gintarė Skaistė will participate in the annual meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which will be held this year in Marrakesh (Morocco). During the meetings, the world's finance ministers and central bank governors will focus on the outlook for the global economy, the coordination between fiscal and monetary policy and the joint response to international challenges, including geopolitical tensions and climate change. Further financial support to Ukraine will also be among the priorities of the agenda of the meetings.
On October 11, a high-level support event for Ukraine will be held, during which the international community will discuss further support for Ukraine, both for 2024 and beyond.
It is expected that the countries supporting Ukraine will announce contributions to the IMF and WB financial support instruments for Ukraine, including the International Development Association Crisis Facility (Lithuania is committed to allocating EUR 10 million to the reconstruction programme of Ukraine and Moldova) and the IMF Extended Fund Facility for Ukraine (Lithuania has recently decided to allocate EUR 1.5 million for the provision of technical support through this instrument in order to strengthen the country's institutional capacity for the implementation of reforms).
The WB Development Committee meeting will discuss global development policy issues, challenges to the global economy and growth, as well as the WB mission, vision and operational model reform, climate change, and energy challenges.
The meeting of the International Monetary and Financial Committee of the IMF will discuss the global economic situation and prospects, the negative consequences of russia's war against Ukraine both at regional and international levels.
During the visit, Minister G. Skaistė will also have bilateral meetings with the finance ministers of Ukraine, Moldova and Canada, as well as with high-ranking representatives of the IMF, WB and other international financial institutions.
