Competition for the position of Director-General of the Customs Department announced

The Ministry of Finance has announced a competition for the position of Director-General of the Customs Department.

According to Minister of Finance K. Vaitiekūnas, this competition seeks for a strong leader capable not only of ensuring the smooth operation of the institution but also of purposefully modernising it.

“Today, the Customs operates in a complex geopolitical environment – trade flows are changing, the importance of implementing sanctions is increasing, and border risks are rising. For these reasons, I set high expectations for the new manager – to assemble a strong team, implement advanced risk management solutions, and ensure that the Customs is modern, transparent, and ready to respond flexibly to emerging challenges,” K. Vaitiekūnas emphasize.

It is stated that the Director-General of this institution shall manage the Customs Department and the Customs as a whole, and shall plan, organise and control the activities of the Customs Department. The Director-General shall ensure the performance of the functions and tasks assigned to the customs authorities and shall manage financial, human and other resources. The Director-General shall take decisions, conclude contracts, agreements and transactions on behalf of the Customs Department.

The Customs Department is a body the purpose of which is to direct the activities of the Lithuanian Customs, which include the supervision of international trade. The Lithuanian Customs system consists of the Customs Department, the Customs Criminal Service, the Customs Training Centre, the Customs Laboratory, the Customs Information Systems Centre and three territorial Customs offices in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda.

The founder and owner of the institution is the State. The rights and obligations of the owner of the institution are implemented by the Ministry of Finance. The Director-General of the Customs Department shall be appointed by the Minister of Finance for a term of 5 years.
