EU investment to regions: calls announced for EUR 376 million

According to the data on 8 July, calls for projects planned by regions totalled EUR 376 million. In the new European Union (EU) investment funding period, EUR 1.6 billion is allocated to Lithuanian regions, which will be invested in regional development.

Most calls were launched in increasing the economic and public service accessibility of regions, functional areas, municipalities and cities administered by the Ministry of the Interior – for EUR 106.5 million.

In the field of social security, the calls reached EUR 79.1 million. They will implement the projects to reduce territorial disparities in the well-being of vulnerable groups in society.

In the field of education, calls amount to EUR 71.7 million. Regions are invited to submit projects to improve access to education for children who are excluded and to develop diverse education through all-day school activities.

In the field of transport, the calls reached EUR 55.8 million. They will implement the projects to improve the safety of road or street infrastructure, to renew the public transport fleet, to develop cycling and pedestrian path infrastructure in cities and measures that contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Currently, the regions are actively planning projects. Alytus region – the first region to have already planned all funds for the region.

As compared to the previous EU investment perspective, regions alone will directly receive significantly higher investment. In the 2014-2020 period, about EUR 972 million of EU funding was allocated to the regions. In the new perspective, as much as EUR 1.6 billion of resources from the EU Structural Funds has been allocated to the implementation of the programme.
