G. Skaistė: "Ukraine implementing reforms is laying the foundations for EU membership"
At the annual meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Marrakech, Minister of Finance Gintarė Skaistė met with Minister of Finance of Ukraine Serhiy Marchenko. The meeting focused mainly on the reforms implemented by Ukraine, with the aim of becoming an equal member of the European Union in the long run.
"Even in time of war, Ukraine implements the agenda of necessary reforms not only to secure additional international aid, but also to achieve the essential objective – membership of the European Union. We believe that Ukraine's membership would contribute to the stability and security of our region and the EU as a whole. Therefore, through the new IMF instrument, Lithuania will provide additional funds for the strengthening of Ukraine's institutional capacities and the opportunity to better prepare for the necessary changes," noted Finance Minister G. Skaistė.
Ukraine is currently preparing the Ukraine Plan, a reform and investment implementation document, which should meet the expectations of all donor countries, linking them with financial support, depending on the progress of the implementation of reforms. It is expected that the document will be ready by the end of this year.
In addition to the already allocated financial, humanitarian and military aid, Lithuania has recently made a decision to allocate EUR 1.5 million to the Extended Fund Facility for Ukraine introduced by the IMF, which is designed to provide expert assistance to the country's institutions in carrying out the necessary reforms, thus ensuring their effective and timely implementation.
