In Brussels, Vice-Minister of Finance J. Kizenevič discussed Lithuania's progress in implementing European projects

Vice-Minister of Finance Januš Kizenevič, who is on a working visit to Brussels, discussed the progress of joint projects at high-level meetings with representatives of the European Commission, the European Economic Area (EEA) and the Norwegian Financial Mechanisms. The progress in implementing the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRF) in Lithuania was also assessed, and preparations for the new period of the EEA and Norwegian Financial Mechanisms were discussed. Members of the delegation of Lithuanian institutions led by the Vice-Minister also participated in the discussions of the European Week of Regions and Cities taking place in Brussels.

In the meeting with Maria Teresa Fabregas Fernandez, Director of the European Commission's Task Force on Economic Recovery and Resilience, the Vice-Minister discussed the implementation of the Plan "New Generation Lithuania", the progress of the assessment of the fourth payment request, and the modifications being made to the plan.

"Our aim is to ensure a mutually constructive dialogue on the implementation of the plan and the approval of its modifications still this year", Vice-Minister of Finance J. Kizenevič stated.

Currently, Lithuania's plan is being successfully implemented: according to September data, more than four-fifths of the reform actions (88%) have been implemented, calls for proposals for projects in the amount of EUR 3.839 billion (99.7%) announced. Four payment requests have been submitted to the EC, EUR 1.82 billion (47.27%) has been received, of which EUR 1.06 billion in subsidies and EUR 0.76 billion in loans.

The fourth payment request amounting to EUR 0.6 billion was submitted to the EC on 4 August, reporting on 40 indicators, and after a positive assessment of the fourth payment request by the EC, Lithuania will have received EUR 2.3 billion of the planned funds (60.6%) by the end of this year.

The meeting with Managing Director of the EEA and Norway Grants Ragna Fidjestol was aimed at discussing the preparations for the new period of the EEA and Norway Grants for 2021-2028, the progress of the preparation of the Memoranda of Understanding and the signing ceremony scheduled for early December.

For three funding periods, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway have been cooperating with Lithuania to reduce social and economic disparities and strengthen bilateral cooperation through the EEA and Norway Grants. The share of funding allocated to Lithuania in the new period of the EEA and Norway Grants for 2021-2028 amounts to EUR 117.8 million, this is slightly more than in the previous period of 2014-2021, when EUR 117.6 million was allocated.

At the meeting with Themis Christophidou, Director-General of the European Commission's Department for Regional and Urban Policy, the Pact for the EU's Eastern Border Regions being prepared by the EC was discussed, the Vice-Minister's aim is to ensure that the pact being developed reflects as effectively as possible Lithuania's interests.
