In Tallin – Discussions on Cohesion Policy
At the meeting of experts responsible for Cohesion Policy taking place in Tallin the representatives from the Ministry of Finance of Lithuania together with the representatives from the Ministries of Finance of Latvia and Estonia discussed the issues of the implementation of Cohesion Policy.
Changed geopolitical situation and response to crisis raised questions regarding the identity, objectives and mode of operation of Cohesion Policy. Therefore, the expert discussion focused on the implementation of Cohesion Policy and preparation for the new financing period.
“Cohesion Policy is one of milestone instruments at EU level designed for long-term objectives, but at the same time, it is sufficiently flexible and able to respond to changes. At the expert meeting, we looked for ways to be proactive, contributing to the growth of the Baltic states, while with the representatives from the European Commission we discussed the future trends and benefits of investments for people, business, public sector”, stressed Director of the Investments Department of the Ministry of Finance Kotryna Tamoševičienė.
According to Ms K. Tamoševičienė, it is extremely important to prepare for new challenges such as green, digital and demographic transformation to be faced by all the Baltic states.
Therefore, the Statement on Post-2027 Future of Cohesion Policy was signed by Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia last year at international conference in Vilnius. It states that Cohesion Policy should further cover all EU regions, maintain the partnership principle and focus as mush as possible on regional problems.
