Lithuania allocates EUR 2 million to Ukraine for solving the social consequences of the war

Today, the Government meeting approved further Lithuanian support to Ukraine through the instruments of international financial institutions: EUR 1 million is allocated to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) fund supporting inclusion, and EUR 1 million – to the Council of Europe Development Bank’s (CEB) Ukraine Solidarity Fund supporting social projects.

"Lithuania tirelessly supports Ukraine and its people and contributes to various initiatives through the instruments of the European Union and international financial institutions. The strength of Ukraine lies in its people and their determination to fight against the aggressor, so it is important to provide support not only to the Ukrainian budget in order to maintain economic stability, but it is no less important to focus on the social consequences of the war and to ensure the basic needs of internally displaced persons, to expand the employment opportunities for those affected by the war. Therefore, we allocate funds that will contribute to the strengthening of the country's social security," says Minister of Finance Gintarė Skaistė.

The goal of the EBRD Action for Equality and Gender Fund's Ukraine programme is to create a business environment and develop human capital, thus enabling employment opportunities for war veterans, the disabled and other persons affected by the russian war in Ukraine. Under the programme, psychological assistance is also provided to these persons.

The purpose of the CEB’s Ukraine Solidarity Fund is to support internally displaced persons and contribute to the reconstruction of Ukraine. The funds of this Fund will meet various social needs arising from the war, such as ensuring the well-being and integration of internally displaced persons, rebuilding the social infrastructure of the most important areas of the country – capital repairs of damaged multi-apartment buildings, ensuring more sustainable housing solutions, as well as strengthening the capacities of the Ministry of Reconstruction of Ukraine.

It is planned that Lithuania will transfer funds to both of these Funds by the end of 2023.
