Ministry of Finance: Lithuania will receive another EUR 50 million of EU funds under the plan “Next Generation Lithuania” in the near future
The European Commission has taken a positive decision on the last (40th) milestone of the fourth payment request under the plan “Next Generation Lithuania”, meaning that the payment of EUR 50 million will soon reach Lithuania.
The total amount of the fourth payment request, which was submitted last August, was EUR 598 million (or EUR 515 million after deduction of advances) for 40 milestones and targets. The EC assessed that 39 targets and milestones had been fully achieved and one milestone had been partially achieved, therefore, in the first phase, an amount of EUR 464 million was paid to Lithuania in January this year.
Lithuania submitted the information and supporting documents to the EC on 8 January that the last milestone has been fully achieved, and the EC has made a positive preliminary decision this week.
This is a preliminary assessment, which is then discussed in the committees of the EC and the Council of the EU, with the approval of which the final decision is published and the funds disbursed. As a rule, the examination of the request in committees takes about a month, so the payment of EUR 50 million should reach Lithuania in March.
According to Minister of Finance Kristupas Vaitiekūnas, 2025 has undoubtedly been a year of success in implementing the plan “Next Generation Lithuania”, with two payment requests for almost EUR 1 billion submitted to the EC in the last half of last year alone. This year's funding will be channelled to boost Lithuania's economic growth, structural reforms, business investment, energy efficiency and other areas.
By September 2026, when Lithuania's final payment request will be submitted, it is still planned to submit one payment request to the EC in March.
