Ministry of Finance: We expect to inject another EUR 360 million into the national economy in spring
The European Commission has given a positive assessment to the fifth payment request under the RRF plan “Next Generation Lithuania”, amounting to over EUR 360 million after deduction of the advance, and the funds are expected to reach Lithuania in March this year.
According to Minister of Finance Kristupas Vaitiekūnas, the year 2025 has undoubtedly been a year of success in implementing the plan “New Generation Lithuania”, with two payment requests for almost EUR 1 billion submitted to the EC in the last half of the previous year alone. This year's funding will be channelled to boost Lithuania's economic growth, structural reforms, business investment, energy efficiency and other areas.
The first EUR 464 million of the fourth payment request have already been received this week. The amount of the fifth payment request submitted by Lithuania on 8 December last year amounts to more than EUR 360 million after deducting the advance.
The fifth payment request successfully reported on 5 milestones and targets. In order to improve the availability of financing for business in Lithuania, the payment request reported on the milestone regarding the approval of the ILTE investment policy.
Four milestones and targets covering loans to companies were also reported to promote private and public investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy, as well as to finance green and high value-added technologies enhancing the competitiveness of the industrial, defence and security sectors.
This is the initial assessment of the fifth payment request by the EC, which is then discussed in the EU Council committees and, if approved, the final EC decision is published and funds are disbursed. As a rule, it takes about a month to process the application in the Council of the EU committees, so the funds are expected to be disbursed in March this year.
By September 2026, when Lithuania's final payment request will be submitted, it is still planned to submit one payment request in March.
