The Government approved the increase in the capital stock of Lithuania at the EBRD
Today's Government meeting approved the increase in paid-in shares in the capital stock of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) by EUR 4.03 million – from EUR 30.01 million to EUR 34.04 million. The capital stock increase will contribute to strengthening the EBRD's financing capacity by providing a solid basis for additional investment in Ukraine and other EBRD countries of operations, including Lithuania.
“We welcome the EBRD's role in assisting Ukraine and its specialisation in working with the private sector, as it is crucial for the viability of the defending country's economy. We consistently emphasize that the Bank's investment in Ukraine needs to grow - the decision on the capital stock increase will enable this, while not reducing the volume of financing in other EBRD countries, including Lithuania”, – said Minister of Finance G. Skaistė.
Since the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine, the EBRD has already invested more than EUR 4.1 billion in the country’s economy and envisages further investment in energy security, restoring vital infrastructure, securing food supply chains, supporting trade and maintaining private sector liquidity.
Payments for the increase of Lithuania’s capital stock at the EBRD would be made in 2025–2029 in 5 equal instalments (EUR 0.806 million per year).
