In Davos Vice-Minister of Finance Januš Kizenevič will discuss resilience of the financial ecosystem and prospects for the European defence industry with world leaders
On 19-21 January, Januš Kizenevič, Vice-Minister of Finance, will attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. The Vice-Minister will participate in three high-level panel discussions that will focus on financial digitalisation and global defence spending challenges. During the visit, the Vice-Minister will also meet with representatives of Bloomberg, Revolut, Palo Alto Networks, NASDAQ and other international companies.
On Monday, together with Estonian Minister of Economy and Industry Erkki Keldo and Polish Minister of Digital Affairs Rafał Rosiński, Vice-Minister J. Kizenevič will participate in a panel discussion on competition under the pressure of geopolitical tensions, looking for the most effective decisions for the countries on the eastern edge of the European Union.
"The Baltic countries and Poland are at the epicentre of today's geopolitical fracture and need to shape the economic strategy in an environment of heightened risk. This is undoubtedly a great challenge, but also an opportunity. With innovative, thought-out decisions, the eastern flank of the European Union can become a successful example of a resilient, future-oriented economic transformation," J. Kizenevič states.
The Vice-Minister will also participate in discussions with leaders of Poland, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Sweden, Denmark and Ukraine on the future of European stability and strategic cooperation, on leadership and collective efforts to ensure a safer and more stable Europe.
On Tuesday, J. Kizenevič will speak at a panel discussion organised by the Polish Business House on how the global financial system is changing in a fragmented world and what is needed to preserve cooperation, stability and growth. Together with Georgios Samakovitis, Professor at University of Greenwich, Inga Mullins, Founder of FinTech company Fluency, Glenn Kim, Investment Advisor, and Michał Bogusławski, CEO Europe at ZEN.COM, the Vice-Minister of Finance of Lithuania will discuss how to strengthen the resilience of the financial ecosystem, develop and implement innovative, safe financial services.
On Wednesday, J. Kizenevič will attend a leaders' roundtable with 25 representatives of international financial institutions and countries around the world, organized by the international financial data and media company Bloomberg. The main focus of the conversation will be the potential for strengthening defence investment, including the search for additional financial resources, the direction of priority acquisitions and the potential to expand European manufacturing capabilities to complement common transatlantic interests and the contribution of the US as a strategic partner.
“Together with world leaders, we need to find the optimal way out of today’s threatening situation. The increase in defence spending is relevant not only for Lithuania, and a strong European defence industry would ensure not only economic but also geopolitical resilience,” Vice-Minister of Finance J. Kizenevič noted.
During the visit to Davos, meetings are also planned with representatives of Bloomberg, Revolut, the global stock exchange NASDAQ, the largest Polish bank PKO Bank Polski, one of the world's largest cybersecurity companies Palo Alto Networks, international private equity fund CVC, one of the largest investment banks Goldman Sachs and other international companies.
More than 3,000 leaders from around the world are expected to gather in Davos, including U.S. President Donald Trump, 850 CEOs, board chairmen of various financial companies, as well as public, environmental and labour rights activists.
