New Minister of Finance Taurimas Valys takes office

After the Seimas approved the 21st Government Programme and the new Cabinet of Ministers was sworn in, the position of Minister of Finance is taken over by Taurimas Valys.

The Minister has more than 20 years of management experience in the field of finance. Prior to his appointment as Minister of Finance, he served as Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs responsible for economic diplomacy, defence industry and diaspora, and in 2025 he was Adviser to the Prime Minister for economic diplomacy and efficiency of state enterprises. The Minister is also an Assistant Professor of Partnership in Finance Programmes at Vilnius University (disciplines taught: EU public finance, international finance and crises).

He was previously elected Vice-President of the French Lithuanian and Vilnius Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Crafts, also is a co-founder and former Vice-President of the Turkish Lithuanian Chamber of Commerce. As a member of Vilnius City Municipality, he participated in activities of the commitees of economy, finance, strategic planning and control, privatisation and human rights. He also gained experience in the financial sector as one of the managers of the Family Credit Union (member of the Board in 2013-2026) and held management positions in licensed fund management companies.

The Minister graduated from Vilnius University Institute of International Relations and Political Science, where he obtained a Bachelor's degree in International Relations and Political Science. He obtained a Master’s degree in Law from Mykolas Romeris University and Master’s degree in Business Administration from Vilnius University. He is currently studying for a PhD in Economic Sciences.
